These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the STT.ai website, applications, APIs, and services (collectively, the "Service") operated by STT.ai ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Service Description

STT.ai provides a speech-to-text transcription platform that enables users to convert audio and video files into text using open-source AI models. The Service includes web-based transcription tools, an API, browser extensions, and related features available at stt.ai.

2. Account Terms

To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete registration information.
• Maintain the security of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Notify us immediately at hello@stt.ai if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
• Be at least 13 years of age. If you are under 18, you must have parental or guardian consent to use the Service.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Violate any applicable law or regulation.
• Transcribe audio that you do not have the legal right to process.
• Upload content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or related systems.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
• Use the Service to develop a competing product by systematically extracting data or reverse-engineering our systems.
• Circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or credit systems through technical means.
• Resell access to the Service without our written permission.
• Create multiple free accounts to circumvent free tier limits.
• Use automated tools to abuse the Service or consume resources beyond normal usage.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy.

4. Payment Terms

Credits. The Service uses a credit-based system. Credits are purchased in advance and consumed when you use transcription and other paid features. Credit balances do not expire. Pricing is displayed at the time of purchase and may be updated from time to time.

Subscriptions. Some features are available through recurring subscription plans. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel before the renewal date. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings.

Taxes. All prices are exclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. You are responsible for any taxes associated with your purchases.

5. Content Ownership

Your Content. You retain full ownership of all audio files you upload and all transcripts generated from your content. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content. We do not use your audio or transcripts to train our models unless you explicitly opt in to the Voice Lab program.

Our Content. The Service, including its design, code, models, documentation, and branding, is owned by STT.ai and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service except as expressly permitted.

Voice Lab Contributions. If you opt in to contribute audio to the STT.ai Voice Lab, your contributions are licensed under CC-BY-SA and may be used to improve open-source speech recognition models. Participation is entirely voluntary.

6. Privacy Mode and Encryption

STT.ai offers a client-side encryption mode for stored transcripts. When enabled, your transcript is encrypted in your browser using AES-256-GCM before being saved to our servers. We cannot read or recover encrypted stored transcripts. However, audio must be sent unencrypted to our GPU server for transcription processing — the encryption protects the stored result, not the processing step. You are solely responsible for maintaining access to your encryption keys. If you lose your encryption key, your encrypted data cannot be recovered.

7. API Usage

Access to the STT.ai API is subject to these Terms as well as any additional API documentation and rate limits published on our website. You agree to:

• Use valid API credentials and keep them confidential.
• Respect published rate limits and usage quotas.
• Not use the API in any way that degrades the Service for other users.

We may suspend API access if we detect abuse or excessive usage that threatens system stability.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

We strive to provide reliable and consistent access to the Service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The Service is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not offer a formal Service Level Agreement (SLA) for free or standard paid plans.

Service Level Agreements with uptime commitments are available only for Private Cloud and Enterprise customers under separate agreements.

We may perform scheduled maintenance, deploy updates, or experience unplanned outages. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned maintenance in advance. We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from service interruptions.

9. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcription results will be perfectly accurate.

10. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, STT.ai and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability for all claims related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid to STT.ai in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless STT.ai from and against any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we reasonably believe is harmful to the Service, other users, or third parties. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before or at the time of termination, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the Service.

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting hello@stt.ai. Upon account deletion, your personal data and transcripts will be removed within 30 days in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, indemnification, and limitations of liability) will continue to apply.

13. Governing Law

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Terms on this page, updating the "Last updated" date, and sending an email notification to registered users. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service.

14. Contact

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
