Usefulness can be defined as something that benefits us. We think about usefulness and benefits by exercising reason. We practice judgment and choose the alternative that best serves our self interest. Travel is useful because we have a need to get away. We think about different destinations and choose one that we think might be the most fun. This good we are experiencing has practical value. Values are either personal or universal.

Universal values are ideas that can be related to almost everyone. Examples include family, happiness, and hope. For example, saving the earth provides us with the universal value of hope and caring for nature, the universal value of happiness. If an organization's mission is nature's sustainability, we promote a clean environment and environmental stewardship because this mission is both useful and valuable.
