Pennad 3: I know Mitch and Julie I've known them since they've um they before yeah since they got here but um they're really good friends but it also is just a time where you got to move on from college life too so yeah that was that was honestly the biggest part of my social life and then honestly the only other social life I had um was with my quartet yeah when you spend 20 to 40 hours a week with a group of people you get pretty close if you can stay yeah where did you go on summer mission I went to Chicago summer mission oh it was really great um honestly if you have the opportunity or experience or whatever I would highly recommend it um truly one of the best experiences just the way I grew to get closer with a lot of people there I don't know how many people or what some of the people do you know who Grace Pruitt is yeah I do I went to Chicago summer mission with her so she's a good friend of mine too and she would she would tell you it's great too so um I know a lot of people go on the ocean city one yeah when uh when I was going it was flipped most people went to Chicago and the ocean city and then the year after I went a lot of people started going to um ocean city but totally fine but yeah and now I think it's mostly just ocean city so yeah it is what it is but my wife went to ocean city one yeah I grew up in New Jersey so oh really yeah I grew up probably about an hour or so from ocean city so closer to the New York side okay so how'd you get over here you don't mind me asking no no it's okay uh my dad moved uh he lost his job and got a job in Michigan so after my senior in high school we uh packed up and went here and then I went to another college before this and then I did not like it whatsoever uh did not like who I kind of became there so I uh moved uh not moved but transferred here so it's been much better can I ask where you went before this or before seeing you yeah uh I went to West Virginia University oh oh cool yeah yeah quite quite a bit quite a bit different but yeah um during or like during your first few years or even now uh do you feel like you have enough time to socialize these days um I would say so yeah it's a little bit different this is my sixth year here okay um and I've kind of taken a lot of those steps to be out of crew for more part of the church so I would say like I do like I so I have stuff um small groups that I go to like bible studies um that I go to with people my age similar situation and I participate and help lead with like the youth group and church and it's I think it's a little bit less socialization but more just because it's the it's the core group of friends versus like the large like setting so but I feel like it's also more difficult to do that when you're not in that set yeah like if you're not in the crew setting like it's hard there's not many groups like that for outside yeah especially if you have that you know half foot half the foot out the door with college absolutely uh do you feel like you have enough time for self-care I make it self-care is a fun one I make it uh a point because I think part of self-care is like my faith yeah my relationship with God and so I believe it's most important to spend time with them and whether sometimes I don't spend my time the way I want to um so I think it's just uh where my priorities are at if I don't have enough time but I do I do usually this is one of my kind of lighter years in some ways but um even in uh even when I was super busy my second my second year was um a time where I really got closer in my relationship with God um and like I guess that self-care uh aspect too but um just because I would I would get up at anywhere from probably about 5 a. 294s · Speaker 1

Pennad 20: preventative side of it like i like i just don't want to ever get to that point and i've known people that are like they've come out of it and they still can't be around people like it's still just not good for them to be around people that do it so and i experienced that a lot my first and second year especially i just couldn't be around certain groups of people and so it was just the choices that i had to make so difficult i guess in that way because i mean meant sometimes i had to look a little bit harder for um friendships and relationships but yeah uh have you ever been tempted to drink if so how did you handle this situation um i don't think so i mean like before i was of legal age just especially no um i have some family members that are alcoholics and just it's really hurt a lot of my like my parents um and just between that and a lot like losing your control of yourself like i just didn't ever want to be in a position where i could do that to people that i loved and cared for and whatnot um and even my parents own lives like they they used to drink a ton um and they stopped because they didn't want to be their parents like they didn't want to repeat their parents so just some of that like as as i grew up knowing that so i i just i don't i don't really remember ever having that temptation and i just a lot of my friends were kind of in similar boats where they didn't really want that either so that helps too um i guess even go with drinking too far i've had a few times where we've done some drinking games or you know um and just it can be more than i would normally have again kind of feeling that like that bit of that buzz but so i guess sometimes it's it can be that's the other thing like if you do are drinking and it's part of a game or something like it is harder to stop if you're already like it's harder to draw that boundary line if you don't have that drawn before so that's only happened to me once or twice though um and i try really hard to be intentional about that uh about just having some of those boundaries just set beforehand or you know like it and in recent times when we played you know instead of just drinking alcohol we'll just drink water like and just there's other ways to yeah alcohol is not a requirement to tap on it's not um did you ever feel any sense of guilt if you did drink too far i i have Because there's still that personal conviction, like the one or two times where I, I don't, that's why I'm just getting popular, so. 297s · Speaker 2
